Life’s Been Busy

Not only has life been busy, but the climbing gym has started to get busier. The last few weeks have been unusually busy during our usual climbing times, which has led us to have to leave early to avoid too much contact during my low immunity weeks.

Ultimately, I got about one climbing day per week over the last few weeks. I’ve also had some tenderness in my hands and knees that I’ve been trying to watch and make sure I didn’t aggravate my body more than I needed to.

Got a 5.5 and 5.6 in today; just to get on the wall despite some pain in an area that I’ve had a torn meniscus and my hands are a little tingly from doing extra finger training last week. I did some light rowing yesterday just to keep my knee moving without any resistance.

I’m in the middle of my infusion timing right now, so I expect to feel weaker and slower over the next couple of weeks so I will keep my climbing light and my weight lifting heavier.

I’ve upped my dosage of creatine. After six weeks of five grams a day, my average sleep time increased by about two hours a night. For me, that’s huge. I get terrible sleep and the endocrinologist says that my cortisol levels are high because I’m getting such bad sleep. Our climbing coach mentioned that creatine can help older women with their sleep quality and figured it couldn’t hurt. I’ve tried all kinds of medications and I saw a new general practitioner last week and he said that there’s not a lot he can do to help my sleep without medications, so here we are. Creatine might be the help I needed. It’s definitely helping me increase my strength while weight lifting. If the sleep improvement is sustainable, I hope that my cortisol will also come down over time. I think I’ll order a new test in six months or so to do a re-check after taking the creatine.

Lastly, after introducing the creatine, I’ve also started changing up my supplements by going through what my orthopedic surgeon recommends and picked out some brands that have less filler and higher quality ingredients. So, we’ll see if that helps.
